Marilyn 's Artist Statement
Art making for me is a healing inner process. It is intuitive and spontaneous. I seek to open the locked door of the unconscious through a play of lines, marks and colors. As I work I rotate the substrate building up layers, allowing figures, shapes, and forms to emerge. Once they have been found, I start to carve out their life and meaning, adding signs and symbols. I leave gaps where the history of the painting is revealed. These are the symbols and themes that form the tapestry of our lives.
I do not limit myself to any medium, style or concept because my process is an intuitive search for where the artwork takes me. Inspiration and ideas change from time to time and I chase after them.
It is my hope that the viewer will subconsciously and emotionally engage long enough to make a soul connection and perceive the patterns and images of human struggles.
